Dedicated and award-winning classical pianist, Arturo Cardelús began to attract attention with his album ‘Con Aire de Tango (2013)‘, which was commissioned by the Berlin Philharmonic soloists after they discovered their music on YouTube.
Since his debut with the short film ‘Sol (2011)‘, Arturo has been testing different genres and styles to reach what is probably his best-known work, the original Netflix mini-series ‘Chiamatemi Francesco (2016)‘ based on the life of Pope Francis.
In recent years, Cardelús has left us with stupendous works such as the documentary ‘The People’s Fighters (2018)‘ or the unusual animated short film ‘In a Heartbeat (2017)‘.
The animated film ‘Buñuel en el laberinto de las tortugas (2018)‘ narrates a stage in the life of the Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel (1900-1983), an internationally recognized figure in the world of cinema and art, and who his exile due to the Spanish Civil War, he was nationalized Mexican. The film focuses on the friendship between a Luis Buñuel who started as a film director, and the artist and anarchist Ramón Acín, who, due to a fortune-telling with the lottery, helped finance his controversial documentary project ‘Las Hurdes, tierra sin pan (1933) ‘.
We are very proud to present the BSO BUÑUEL EN EL LABERINTO DE LAS TORTUGAS, by the composer Arturo Cardelus.
BUÑUEL EN EL LABERINTO DE LAS TORTUGAS is an animated film, which narrates the filming by Luis Buñuel of the documentary Las Hurdes Tierra sin Pan. The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Fermín Solís and the script is adapted by Eligio Montero and the director himself. The production is in charge of Manuel Cristóbal and José Fernández de Vega with Javier Espada as associate producer and expert in the figure of Luis Buñuel. And the music by Arturo Cardelús. The album was recorded at the mythical Abbey Road Studios in London by the Isobel Griffiths’s Studio Orchestra and the choirs of the Royal Academy Musical Theater.
“… That is why Cardelús’ music is cheerful and friendly but nonetheless has bitter and surrealist undertones at times, which correspond to Buñuel’s traumas and adventures. Against the film’s parallel and complementary narrative lines, Cardelús builds a well-constructed soundtrack, with distinct collections of leitmotifs that support the film’s plot development.”
